Westgate-On-Sea Town Council Council Meetings

Council meetings are open to the public wherever possible.

The agenda allows for the meeting to adjourn for fifteen minutes for the public to participate.  If you wish to speak at a council meeting or have a question to address to the council please do so in writing by close of business on the Friday prior to the meeting.  Please give as much information as you can if you would like an answer during the meeting.  It may not always be possible to answer questions at the meeting and if this is the case you will receive a response in writing from the town clerk after the meeting.

Westgate-on-Sea operates a committee system where it delegates its functions to various committees in order to expedite the business of the council.

The Full Council meets once a month, with the exception of August when the council is in recess.  Full council has the overall authority on the business of the council.  The Full Council considers responses to planning applications and responds to the local planning authority with the views of the corporate body.

The Finance and General Purposes Committee meets monthly. Its primary purpose is to manage the Council's financial resources and to debate and recommend strategy and action on policy and operational matters concerned with Council's finances, property, resources, land and manpower.  This committee now also encompasses any environmental issues within the town.

The Events and Tourism Committee meets bi-monthly.  Its primary purpose is to promote Westgate-on-Sea as a tourism destination, to liaise with outside organisations whose objectives are to promote tourism in Thanet and Kent, and support or help co-ordinate (and plan if necessary) public events for the benefit of, and/or bring tourism to, Westgate-on-Sea.

The Human Resources Sub-Committee  is usually a closed meeting due to the nature of business. Its primary purpose is to debate and recommend on staffing policy matters.  This committee reports into the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

Each year the Council approves its 'Standing Orders'.  These are the rules that the council must abide by and prescribes how the council will transact its business.
