Covid-19 Information and Guidance for Local Businesses - SUPPLIED BY THANET DISTRICT COUNCIL

As a key partner with links to your high street and local businesses communities we wanted to ensure you know what support is on offer from Thanet District Council so you can help us to share this through your networks and ensure we reach as many organisations and businesses as possible.

As you are almost certainly aware, local businesses who have been ordered to close for four weeks from today, may be eligible for a government grant of up to £3,000 per month. The Local Restrictions Support Grant, which helped businesses ordered to close in local tier three lockdowns, is now available for businesses required to close in national measures.

Initial guidance from the Government was issued yesterday (Wednesday 4 November) and further detailed guidance will follow. We are busy working through this to finalise the eligibility criteria and make the necessary changes to our IT systems to enable the grants to be administered.

For more information about eligibility and how to apply, go to thanet.gov.uk/businessupport. Any businesses that are still unsure if they qualify, should contact the Business Rates Team directly at [email protected].

We are also looking to support the local Thanet business community via a dedicated Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/ThanetBusinessSupport. As a member of this group, businesses will be able to access up-to-date guidance and share information among the business group. We would welcome key partners to join this group and will be sending invitations to join over the coming days.

The dedicated business section of the website has details of further government schemes and initiatives that organisations may be able to access and what support is available, including the government's Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) - also known as the Furlough Scheme, which will now remain open until March 2021.

We have already removed business rates from over a thousand retail, hospitality and leisure businesses for this financial year. We also have a Business Support consultant, Sharon Davies, who is on hand to give advice and support to Thanet’s high street businesses, large and small. Many businesses may have already met Sharon whilst she's been out and about in the high streets prior to this lockdown. She can be contacted on [email protected]. Working with key partners such as yourself is going to help us to stay connected with local businesses during this second lockdown.

Kent County Council, in collaboration with all the local authorities in Kent, has a business support line (03333 602300) for coronavirus-related issues, delivered by the Kent & Medway Growth Hub. The line is now open and taking calls five days a week from Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 6pm.

We will continue to keep in touch with you throughout this lockdown as we continue to support local businesses and high street retailers during the coronavirus pandemic.

If you have any queries you can also contact Gill - [email protected]
