Mast at the St Peters Presbytery 117 Canterbury Road, Westgate on Sea
Westgate-on-Sea Town Council
The Town Council has been contacted by a few concerned residents and I know that social media has been posted with comments about the mast that has appeared at the St Peters Presbytery site on 117 Canterbury Road, Westgate on Sea.
Thanet District Council have advised they were notified of the installation of a temporary mast by MBNL, EE Ltd & H3G UK Ltd for a temporary period of up to 18months as they needed to carry out (exempt) works to trees in the Conservation Area to enable the installation of the temporary mast.
Some reduction of some of the trees on site is being undertaken to allow access for the vehicles required for transportation and build of the telecoms apparatus.
The mast is permitted under Class A(b) of Part 16 Schedule 2 of the General Permitted Development Order 2016. If you would like to receive a copy of the legislation for your reference please contact the Town Clerk - [email protected]
TDC have contacted Waldron Planning who notified them of the works to the trees and Waldron Planning will be issuing notification letters this week to residents which should provide more details of the work. If residents have any queries, please contact Waldron Planning - [email protected] using the reference number 31386.
A temporary EE and 3 mast is being erected in the grounds of the St Peters Church. This is required as planned redevelopment of that site by the owner mean that a shared telecoms site currently located on the building needs to be removed. Prior Approval has been obtained for a permanent solution, a “tree mast” at the Westgate Cricket Club, but a temporary site is needed to ensure there is no loss of coverage on these two mobile networks between the removal of the existing site and build and integration of its replacement, which will occur as soon as is possible.
