National Lottery Community Fund Grant for Blooming Westgate
Westgate-on-Sea Town Council
Blooming Marvellous News for Westgate!
We’re very excited, so we’ll just come right out and say it… the Town Council’s Blooming Westgate project has been awarded a £17,200 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund!
The successful application was led by Cllr Mike Livesey, Chair of the Events, Tourism and Development Committee, and lead of the Blooming Westgate Working Group.
Mike explains, “This wonderful award not only facilitates our ambitious future plans for Blooming Westgate but also serves to recognise what we have been trying to achieve - celebrating biodiversity, involving the community and fostering civic pride. None of this would have been possible without all the hard work that our working party and volunteers have put into the project, so I would like to express my undying gratitude for their invaluable support. I'd also like to thank Westgate-on-Sea Town Council's chair Cllr David Donaldson for encouraging me to submit this application and for his unwavering - and obviously justified - optimism.”
Blooming Westgate is a long-term community initiative to bring more wild and pollinator-friendly planting to our town. It launched in Spring 2026, embracing civic pride and with attention focused on the town centre planters and the flower beds near the War Memorial on Sea Road.
Future months will see the project expanding, with the creation of meadows, additional planters and more initiatives aimed at community involvement.
We are so grateful for the grant from The National Lottery Community Fund and look forward to seeing Westgate bloom with even more life and colour in the years to come.
