The Westgate Heritage Centre delivered two guided walks across the town on Saturday as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days festival. We are delighted to be supporting this initiative.

From the arrival of the railway in 1871 and the presence of a famous ‘cat’ artist in 1894, to a look at some of the earliest buildings and residential squares, Sally Whitworth’s talk pointed out some of the most significant spots in Westgate. Her knowledge really is impressive!

Thank you to all the Westgate Heritage Centre volunteers who worked so hard to put these events on, and to Cllr Sarah Jarman for organising the tea, coffee and biscuits back at base at the Bakehouse after the later walk.

This weekend, Saturday 19th September, there will be talks in the Bakehouse and the Carlton Cinema.

Westgate in Victorian Times - 10am and 1.30pm at the Bakehouse.
Cinema-on-Sea - 10.30am and 12 noon at the Carlton Cinema.
