Colleagues from Kent Police will be working with partners participating in a Global Road Safety Week of Action, including #ProjectEDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) 2023.

Road traffic injures are a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with around 1.3 million people killed and as many as 50 million people injured each year. For people aged 5-29 years, there is no greater threat to their lives. Globally, 1 of every 4 deaths occur among pedestrians and cyclists.

#ProjectEDWARD is an annual UK-wide road safety campaign backed by UK Government, our Emergency services, Highways agencies, road safety organisations and private industry. It aims to promote an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach - the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury. Our goal is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country to promote:

• Day 1: Safe Roads

• Day 2: Safe Vehicles

• Day 3: Safe Speeds

• Day 4: Safe Road Users

• Day 5: Post-Crash Response

Some of our activties will be:

  • Using marked and unmarked resources focusing on identifying drivers who are committing offences with the Fatal 4 -
  • Drink/Drug Driving
  • Speeding,
  • Use of Mobiles
  • Failing to wear seatbelts.

We are also working alongside our partners Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership, Kent County Council Road Safety, Vision Zero, Medway Council Road Safety and Kent Fire and Rescue Road Safety Team.
