Group efforts make solar panels cheaper for Kent homes and businesses

Residents and businesses are coming together to invest in renewables through a group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.

Solar Together, which is endorsed by Kent County Council (KCC), will use the collective buying power to get a competitively priced installation.

The scheme helps Kent homeowners feel confident they are paying the right price for a high-quality installation from pre-approved installers.

Over 230 households installed solar panels and/or battery storage in the first phase of this scheme in Kent.

The scheme opens for the second time in Kent on 7 February and offers solar panels, with optional battery storage and EV charge points.

It also covers retrofit battery storage for residents who have already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid.

It is free to register and there is no obligation to go ahead with an installation. The scheme, while endorsed by KCC, is administered by iChoosr – a firm specialising in group-buying schemes.

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Susan Carey, said: “We know that people are increasingly interested in switching to renewable energy. So whether your interest is to control your future energy bills, to reduce your carbon footprint or a mixture of both then Solar Together could help you and our environment.”

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Derek Murphy, said: “Group buyer power is a really good way to increase confidence, especially in such a significant investment.

“I am delighted that small businesses can benefit from this scheme.”
