Temporary Road Closure & Suspend Weight Limit - A299 Thanet Way & Various Roads, Canterbury - 7th July 2022 (Canterbury, Swale & Thanet District)

It will be necessary to close part of the A299 Thanet Way, Brenley Corner to Monkton, from 7th July 2022 in phased overnight closures between 19:00 hours and 05:00 hours.

The planned dates of closure, extents of road affected and alternative routes are as shown below.

THURSDAY 7 JULY 2022 - coastbound closure from A2/A299 Brenley Corner to A290 Clapham Hill

Alternative route via A2 Boughton Bypass, A2 Dover Road, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, Palmars Cross Hill, Rough Common Road, A290 Whitstable Road, A290 Tile Kiln Hill, A290 Blean Hill, A290 Blean Common, A290 Honey Hill, A290 Pean Hill and A290 Clapham Hill to re-join A299

Traffic from Whitstable Road (Graveney), Waterham Road and Highstreet Road will be diverted London-bound to Brenley Corner to join the main diversion

FRIDAY 8 JULY 2022 - London-bound closure from A290 Clapham Hill to A2/A299 Brenley Corner

Alternative route is as per previous night, but in reverse

Traffic from Pilgrims Lane, Dargate Road, Highstreet Road, Plumpudding Lane, Fostall and Staple Street will be diverted coast bound to Brenley Corner to join the main diversion

WEDENSDAY 13 JULY & THURSDAY 14 JULY 2022 – coastbound closure from A2990/A291 Herne Bay on-slip to St Nicholas Roundabout

Alternative route via A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Herne Street, A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Calcott Hill, A291 Herne Bay Road, A291 Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, A28 Staines Hill, A28 Island Road and A28 Canterbury Road to re-join A299

FRIDAY 15 JULY & MONDAY 18 JULY 2022 - London-bound closure from St Nicholas Roundabout to A2990/A291 Herne Bay off-slip

Alternative route as above, but in reverse

TUESDAY 19 JULY 2022 - full closure in both directions between St Nicholas Roundabout and Monkton Roundabout

Alternative route via A28 Canterbury Road, A253 Ramsgate Road and A253 Canterbury Road, and vice versa.

The 7.5T environmental weight limit Order on Rough Common Road and Palmars Cross Hill will be suspended to allow the use of these roads for diversions.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while annual High Speed Road maintenance works are undertaken by Kent County Council.
