A299 Thanet Way, Canterbury, Swale & Thanet (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & SUSPENSION OF ENVIRONMENTAL WEIGHT LIMIT)
THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2023

To allow annual High Speed Road maintenance works to be carried out Kent County Council has made an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on the A299 Thanet Way, through Canterbury, Swale and Thanet. Phased overnight closures are planned between 19:00 hours and 05:00 hours
from 6th July 2023, with estimated completion by 28th July 2023, or where stated on a valid Permits (GE40190209228, GE40192800087, GE40190209438, GE40190209227 & GE40190209724 - Kent County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signage displayed on site and the works will be displayed on One.Network.

The planned dates of closures, extents of roads affected and alternative routes are as shown below:-
6th July 2023 and 28th July 2023 (28th only if works are not completed on 6th):
Night 1 & Night 8:- From M2 Brenley Corner to A290 Clapham Hill, Whitstable
TOTAL CLOSURE Coast bound only.

Alternative route is via A2 Boughton Bypass, Dover Road, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, Palmars Cross Hill, Rough Common Road, A290 Whitstable Road, A290 Tile Kiln Hill, A290 Blean Hill, A290 Blean Common, A290 Honey Hill, A290 Pean Hill and A290 Clapham Hill to rejoin A299. Traffic from Whitstable Road (Graveney), Waterham Road and Highstreet Road will be diverted London-bound to Brenley Corner to join the main diversion.
7th July 2023: Night 2:- From A290 Clapham Hill, Whitstable to M2 Brenley Corner TOTAL CLOSURE London bound only.
Alternative route is as previous night, but in reverse.
Traffic from Pilgrims Lane, Dargate Road, Highstreet Road, Plumpudding Lane, Fostall and Staple Street will be diverted coast bound to Brenley Corner to join the main diversion.
The 7.5T Environmental Weight Limit Order on Rough Common Road and Palmars Cross Hill will be suspended to allow the use of these roads for diversions.
12th July 2023 & 13th July 2023: Night 3 and 4:- Herne Bay off-slip to St Nicholas at Wade roundabout TOTAL CLOSURE Coastbound only.
Alternative route via A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Herne Street, A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Calcott Hill, A291 Herne Bay Road, A291 Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, A28 Staines Hill, A28 Island Road and A28 Canterbury Road to rejoin A299.
14th July 2023 & 17th July 2023: Night 5 and 6:- St Nicholas at Wade roundabout to A291 Herne Bay on-slip TOTAL CLOSURE London bound only.
Alternative route is as above but in reverse.
18th July 2023: Night 7:- St Nicholas at Wade roundabout to Monkton roundabout
TOTAL CLOSURE in both directions.
Alternative route via A28 Canterbury Road, A253 Ramsgate Road and A253
Canterbury Road, and vice versa.
The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while High Speed Road maintenance works are undertaken by Kent County
Council.
