Our Project

Blooming Westgate is a Westgate-on-Sea Town Council initiative aimed at bringing the community together to add colour to our town and address the plight of bees and other pollinators by growing wild and pollinator-friendly flowers.

When wildflowers bloom, they not only feed these heroic insects – whose numbers are sadly dwindling – but also create a beautiful and interesting environment for everyone living in and visiting Westgate.

Initiated this year, Blooming Westgate is a long-term and evolving project. Right now, we have wildflowers growing in the town centre planters, in the war memorial beds and on the church wall.

See what's in our planters here...

Our town centre traders have entered into the spirit of Blooming Westgate, adding to the wealth of colour by placing hanging baskets outside their shops and restaurants.

In future months and years, we will extend the project, creating meadows and wild areas throughout the town.

The Blooming Westgate initiative is led by a highly committed working party, comprising councillors and officers of Westgate-on-Sea Town Council, green fingered experts and representatives from St Saviour’s Church and the Westgate-on-Sea Lovelies.
