Concessionary bus pass holders to be able to travel for free for longer
Older and disabled people who have a concessionary bus pass will be able to travel for free for longer this summer, thanks to funding secured by Kent County Council (KCC).
During August KCC will remove the limit restricting people who have an English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) pass to travel from Kent or Medway after 9.30am.
This means people with a valid concessionary bus pass will be able to use the bus any time up until 11pm Monday to Friday and all day at weekends.
The initiative is funded by KCC’s Bus Service Improvement Plan allocation by the Government.
KCC’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, David Brazier, said: “Since the pandemic bus users with an ENCTS pass has fallen.
“We want to ensure we make the bus a safe, convenient, and great way to get about the county whether that be to visit friends or head for a day out.
“This initiative is designed to get people back on the bus and to rediscover why it is such a great way to get about Kent.”
Roads Minister, Richard Holden, said: “Supporting KCC with extending free bus travel for concessionary pass holders is great for local residents, especially following the launch of our “Take The Bus” campaign to get elderly and disabled people back on the bus, who will now be able to get around more easily and make the most of the fantastic opportunities Kent has to offer.
“People up and down the country deserve a modern, reliable and affordable public transport system. That is why we’re providing Kent County Council with over £37 million to boost its bus services.”
