A Bright Morning for the Pancake Races
Westgate-on-Sea Town Council
Hundreds of people turned out on a bright Shrove Tuesday morning for the traditional Westgate-on-Sea Pancake Races. Children from age two to their teens took part in the fun races up and down Station Road.
The road was lined with onlookers cheering them along and plenty of dogs looking for an opportune pancake drop while out on their morning walk!
As well as the youngsters, we welcomed adults, local businesses, community groups and our own councillors, operatives and staff. We were also joined by local TV and radio covering the event and helping to put Westgate on the map.
The finish line was manned by Cllrs Mike Livesey and David Wallin along with Vic and Brandon from our operatives team. Cllr Donna Carr did a sterling job keeping the children supplied with pans and pancakes, while Cllrs David Donaldson and Clive Veck were enthusiastic supporters.
Special highlights included the Westgate-on-Sea skate park crew on wheels and a funny dress up race with a giant dinosaur, wizard, unicorn, dragon and Grinch.
Thank you to everybody who came along to cheer and keep this historic tradition alive in our wonderful town, and a special thank you to our excellent Town Clerk Nabila and Administration Officer and event planner Ana for organising such a great morning. We look forward to seeing you all again on Shrove Tuesday next year!
