This Shared Lives Week (26 June – 2 July) Kent County Council (KCC) is asking for more people to consider opening their homes to adults who need extra care and support and celebrating the amazing work that our carers do.

Shared Lives offers adults in need of extra support with day to day living the chance to move in with their carer, share their family home and lead an ordinary life in a safe and loving environment.

KCC’s Shared Lives carers provide short breaks, day support and longer-term support for adults who draw on social care and support.

Carers receive a weekly salary, tax breaks, full training, and ongoing support from our experienced team.

Clair Bell, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: “Shared Lives is an amazing service that offers our residents in need of extra support an alternative to day care, residential or nursing care and provides regular breaks for family carers.

“Our Shared Lives carers do a wonderful job and transform the lives of those they care for and their families.

“Those who use the service get the opportunity to live more independently and lead a more fulfilled life as part of a family in a loving environment.

“For our carers, it is an extremely rewarding role which enables them to work flexibly whilst giving back to our communities.”

KCC is currently recruiting for more caring people to undertake this rewarding role.
