Temporary One-way – Station Road, Westgate-on-Sea, Margate – from 23 September 2020

Kent County Council is introducing a temporary one-way system on part of Station Road, Westgate-on-Sea, near Margate, from 23 September 2020 onwards.

This is being done to help achieve social-distancing to promote economic recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.

Station Road will become one-way westbound only, from the junction with Roxburgh Road to the junction with St Mildred’s Road.

Eastbound traffic on Station Road will be prohibited from the junction with St Mildred’s Road to the junction with Roxburgh Road.

The alternative route for eastbound traffic is via St Mildred’s Road, Westgate Bay Avenue and Roxburgh Road.

Traffic from Adrian Square and both junctions with Ethelbert Square will be unable to turn left into Station Road.

The length of the double yellow lines on both sides of Station Road, west of the junction with Roxburgh Road, will be reduced from 15 metres to 10 metres.

Junction modifications where Station Road meets St Mildred’s Road will result in the loss of approximately 4 parking spaces on the northern side of the St Mildred’s Road / Station Road junction.

This comes into force from Wednesday 23 September 2020 for a maximum period of up to 18 months, and applies as and when the relevant signage, carriageway markings and barriers are on site.

The changes are as a result of UK Government funding to provide new or improve existing walking and cycling facilities in order to promote active travel as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the need commit funds quickly, it has not been possible to allow time for the usual levels of local consultation.

The timing and duration may be affected by various factors including the current coronavirus situation, and the most up to date information on these works can be found here: https://one.network/?tm=118694223
